Granite is a form of rock that is created when pockets of magma are cooled over significant amounts of time. Granite countertops are very durable and can take high grades of heating. It’s complexity and character is aesthetically pleasing and can easily hide seams. Thicknesses of granite countertops can vary, depending on the type of contouring you’re looking for, usually between 1 and 1 ½”. Installation of granite isn’t easy, though, and we strongly recommend you hire a countertop installer to put your surfacing in. In addition, some people may be concerned with the fact that granite naturally admits radon, which is carcinogenic.
