Tile has gained quite a bit of popularity in recent years due to their ability to deflect heat and their level of attractiveness. Ceramic – although it’s known to deflect high temperatures – can be very delicate and break easily. Nevertheless, some of the most beautiful mosaics can be developed from ceramic pieces. Normally, the tile is only about ½” thick, but the overlay addition will increase countertop thickness by around 1”. Generally, ceramic tiles are better suited for bathroom surfaces because they’re not perfectly flat. Because tile requires multiple layers of application, installing tile should be left up to a contractor.
